A few key concepts are helpful when resizing images:

• Resolution: Refers to the number of pixels in an image, typically expressed as width x height (e.g., 1920x1080 pixels). Resizing changes this.
• Aspect Ratio: The proportional relationship between an image's width and its height. Maintaining aspect ratio prevents images from looking stretched or squashed.
• Pixelation: Occurs when an image is enlarged too much, causing individual pixels to become visible and the image to appear blocky or blurry. It's generally better to downscale (make smaller) than to significantly upscale (make larger) raster images.
• File Size: Resizing an image, especially making it smaller, will usually reduce its file size (in kilobytes or megabytes), which is beneficial for web performance.

1. Navigate to the Image Resizer: Ensure you are on this page.
2. Upload Your Image: Click the drop area or drag and drop your image file. The image will appear in the preview area.
3. Select Resize Method:
   • Percentage (%): Click the "%" button. Enter the desired percentage (e.g., 50 for half size).
   • Pixels (PX): Click the "PX" button. Enter the maximum dimension for the longest side.
   • Custom (W x H): Click the "W x H" button. Enter your desired width and height. Check/uncheck the "link" icon to maintain/ignore aspect ratio.
4. Observe Preview: The image in the drop area will update to reflect the new dimensions. The dimensions overlay will show original and new sizes.
5. Download: Click the download icon ( download ) to save the resized image.
6. Clear (Optional): Click the clear icon ( cancel ) to remove the current image and start over.

• Downscaling (Making Smaller): Generally preserves quality well. Our tool uses algorithms to average pixel data, resulting in a clear smaller image.
• Upscaling (Making Larger): Can lead to loss of sharpness or pixelation, as new pixels must be interpolated (guessed). While our "PX" mode allows upscaling, it's best to start with a source image that is at least as large as your desired output if quality is critical.
• Aspect Ratio: Maintaining the aspect ratio is crucial to avoid distorting your image. Our tool defaults to maintaining it in "Custom WxH" mode and always maintains it in "Percentage" and "Pixels" modes.
• Original Image Quality: The quality of the resized image heavily depends on the quality of the original. A low-quality original will result in a low-quality resized image.
• File Format: Resizing a lossy format like JPG multiple times can degrade quality. If you need to perform many edits, consider working with a lossless format if possible, or do all resizing in one step.

• Start with a Good Quality Original: The better the quality of your source image, the better the resized result will be.
• Avoid Excessive Upscaling: If possible, avoid making images much larger than their original size to prevent significant quality loss.
• Know Your Target Dimensions: If resizing for a specific platform (like a social media banner), find out the recommended dimensions beforehand.
• Check Aspect Ratio: For most purposes, you'll want to maintain the original aspect ratio to prevent your image from looking stretched or squashed.
• Preview Before Downloading: Use the live preview to ensure the resized image looks as expected.
• Consider the Purpose: For web use, smaller dimensions and file sizes are generally better. For print, higher resolution might be needed (though this tool is primarily for screen-based resizing).
